After three days of being put through the ringer, the players are wrapping up training camp today with two final matches.  Like the scrimmages, the Red and White games consist of two thirty minute periods and are open to the public.  Don’t miss the final game today at 3:45 PM at the General Motors Centre.

Game 2 – Team Red vs. Team White
With a win already in hand, Team White came into this game riding high, but Team Red was eager to prove themselves.  Team Red came out of the gates going full steam ahead and it only took Generals Captain Boone Jenner thirty seconds to score the first goal of the game.  With Team Red up 1-0, another returning General, Cole Cassels, stepped up to pad the lead, making it 2-0.  Team White was quick to answer though.  Less than five minutes into the first period, Lucas Lessio scored for Team White to cut the lead in half.

Both teams failled to capitalize on power plays in the first, but there was hardly a shortage of goals. Jared Dennis made it 3-1 for Red, but Lucas Lessio answered quickly with his fourth goal of training camp to bring White within one again, making it 3-2.  Boone Jenner returned the two goal lead for Red and it looked like that’s how things would stay going into the second, but Colin Suellentrop rifled one at the net and Lucas Lessio tipped it in, putting another on the board for Team White.

It was 4-3 for Team Red to open the second period, but Team White tied it up five minutes in when Emerson Clark deflected a rebound over Daniel Altshuller’s pad.  Team White had difficulty beating Altshuller after that while Team Red kept on the pressure.  Midway through the period, Scott Sabourin put away his first of the camp off a nice set up from Boone Jenner.  Tyler Biggs finished the scoring when he beat Justin Tugwell off a pass from Jared Dennis, making it 6-4 for Team Red.  That’s how it stayed for the rest of the rest of the game and Team Red walked away with the win.

Come down to the General Motors Centre this afternoon for the final game of the Red and White series.  It starts at 3:45 PM and is open to the public.  It will be the last chance for players to earn their way onto the team, so it is sure to be some exciting hockey.

Game 3 – Team Red vs. Team White
The energy on both sides was as high as it could possibly be this afternoon, with roster spots on the line.  Team Red and Team White each came into the final game with a win so this match would decide the three game series of camp.

Things kicked off with a goal from newly acquired Adam Lloyd, who jammed in a rebound to put Team White up 1-0 part way through the first.  White had a chance to pad the lead on the power play but couldn’t capitalize on the chance.  Shortly before the end of the period Christian Thomas made his presence felt when he picked up the stray puck and took off on a short breakaway to put it past Austin Washkurak.  He put Team White ahead 2-0 going into the second period.

Team Red had their chance on the power play in the second and it was Josh Brown who tallied the first power play marker of the tournament when he rifled one from beyond the blue line that bounce past Ken Appleby.  White answered quickly though when Lucas Lessio flicked in a rebound.  It was 3-1 for White early in the second.  Red had a good chance to close the gap when they enjoyed a full minute of 5 on 3 but Ken Appleby stood tall and White killed off the penalties.  The back and forth play continued until the dying minutes until a result finally came from all the pressure Team Red was applying.  At the culmination of an onslaught on net, Scott Sabourin knocked in a rebound to bring Red within one.  Red pulled their goaltender in the final minute, but Christian Thomas put one into the empty net to seal the deal at 4-2 White.
