Training Camp: Day 2 RecapAug 30, 2012 - 07:29 EDT
Here on the second day of the training camp, the players have finally taken to the ice. The 56 players attending the Generals’ 2012 Main Camp spent Wednesday working their way through medicals, fitness testing and a photo shoot for head shots. With that out of the way, everyone is excited to get back to the ice and play some hockey. Each game features two thirty minute periods, making it a test not only of skill but also of endurance.
Scrimmage 1 – Team White vs. Team Red
Though it took most of the first period to see a goal, the game could hardly have been said to get of to a slow start. Both teams traded chances and the energy was high on both sides. Free Agent Stefano Alonzi was the first to step up and tip the scales as he beat net minder Daniel Altshuller, putting the Red Team up 1-0.
At the start of the second period Team White came out with renewed determination. They played aggressive defence and kept the puck out of their net, but ultimately they couldn’t crack Ken Appleby in net. Team White pulled Washkurak out of goal in the last minute but it wasn’t enough and the scrimmage ended 1-0 in favour of Team Red.

Scrimmage 2 – Team Blue vs. Team White
After a hard fought game against Team Red where they came up just short, Team White was looking for a little redemption.
It didn’t take long for Team White to open the scoring. Emerson Clark was the first to get on the board and put Team White up 1-0. Team White kept on and before the period was half way through, they put another on the board when Matt Petgrave scored off a pass from Sebastian Uvira. It was 2-0 White.
The Blue Team fought back valiantly and cut the lead in half near the end of the period. John Urbanic tapped one in to make it 2-1, with the assists going to JP Labardo and 2012 6th round draft pick Kelly Summers.
After the break, the White Team fought hard to hold onto their lead, but the Blue Team fought harder to come back. Half way through the period, 2012 13th round pick Corey Caruso slipped one past Daniel Altshuller to tie the game up at 2-2.
As the period was coming to a close, both teams were getting tired after two thirty minute periods, but it was the White Team that managed to capitalize. Matt Petgrave lobbed one past Justin Tugwell for his second goal of the game and put Team White up 3-2. Team Blue put in a valiant effort to tie the game, but the buzzer went and Team White claimed the victory.
