The Generals scored in bunches on Friday as they defeated a talented Saginaw Spirit team 6-4 in front of 3,275 at the Dow Event Center. Scott Laughton scored a hat-trick in the victory as he extended his point streak to 7 games. Daniel Altshuller made 28 saves for his OHL leading 30th win of the season.
Saginaw grabbed an early lead, as Jimmy Lodge scored a quick powerplay goal at 3:03. The goal was answered quickly as the Generals scored a powerplay goal of their own, with Scott Sabourin getting the mark at 4:21. Both teams added another with Colin Sullentrop blasting a shot past Paterson, while Lodge scored his second powerplay goal of the game to tie the game 2-2.
The Spirit scored another early period goal in the second, as Eric Locke tucked the puck past Altshuller at the 0:33 mark. The Generals would respond with the next three goals of the game, three minutes apart, as the lead changed hands for the fourth and final time. Boone Jenner stripped the defenseman of the puck before beating Jake Paterson five-hole to tie the game 3-3. Scott Laughton chipped in with two quick goals as he put the Generals ahead 5-3 heading into the third period.
Saginaw would again open the period with a goal, as Jimmy Lodge scored his third powerplay goal of the game to cut the Generals lead to one. The Spirit used the momentum to pelt Altshuller with shots, but the Oshawa netminder was up to the task holding off the assault to give his team the chance to win. Scott Laughton continued to have a hot stick as he completed his own hat-trick, notching his 20th of the season.
The Generals outshot Saginaw 39-32.
Scott Laughton picked up the second star in the win.
The Generals travel to Sarnia before returning home to the General Motors Centre to take on the Sudbury Wolves for a special Family Day matchup. Puck drop is 2:05pm.
