The Oshawa Generals announced today that they have acquired defenseman Simon Karlsson from the Plymouth Whalers.  In exchange for Karlsson, the Generals have traded forward Sebastian Uvira and Kitchener’s 5th round pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection to the Whalers.

Simon Karlsson, a native of Malmo, Sweden, came over to North America this year and is having a successful first season in the Ontario Hockey League.  He has totalled 2 goals and 11 points in 34 games on Plymouth’s blue line.  Before joining the Whalers, he played for the Malmo Redhawks of HockeyAllsvenskan, the second highest league in Sweden.

Simon was selected by the Nashville Predators in the 5th round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.  He was taken by Plymouth in the 2nd round of the 2012 CHL Import Draft, going 90th overall.

Sebastian Uvira, a native of Freiburg, Germany, joined the Generals in 2011 after being selected in the 1st round of the 2011 CHL Import Draft, going 46th overall.  He has tallied 3 goals and 6 points this season for a total of 16 goals and 28 points in 81 games with the Generals.
